History: Derived from a popular advert from KIWI featuring Kenya's prolific runner, David Rudisha. In this ad, Rudisha says "Ninapo ng'arisha fyatu fyangu, sio fyatu pekee finafyo ng'ara" - "When I polish my shoes, it is not just my shoes that shine". Rudisha is from Rift Valley where they have a "fi" sound instead of the "Vee" sound hence the Swahili phrase "Viatu vyangu" - "My shoes" ends up being "Fyatu fyangu". Urban youth however took this phrase to mean those shoes that one would ideally wear when going out for a date.
